He works in the metal section with his buddy Hoa. He doesn't talk a lot with others and concentrates on his work. His family was poor and he lived with his uncle when his father died. He couldn't afford to have a teacher in sign language. His last job was to look after buffalos, and it goes without saying, he loves his new job.
Nam , an artisan who makes pottery decorated with brass patterns, loses his hearing. In contrast, he is endowed with brilliant observant ability, yet great concentration. Thus, his products reach an outstandingly skilful and superior level. Apart from the joy of making each single product, he rarely has any simple happiness in life like other normal men, so he devotes almost his time and strength to making metal products. They are not only his pride, but also the only things that can make people understand his true value. With his hand, he ‘listens' to the clash of pieces of brass. This unique talent has helped him to do the thing that seems impossible to deaf people.
